HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF HARMONY

≥ In moments of unity, the space between predator and prey

is filled with something more divine.

“Horses and the Science of Harmony” examines the nature of harmony between horse and rider through the eyes of 3-day event rider

Bubby Upton and through the lens of cutting-edge science.

The film features a long list of "who's who" of highly respected experts; equine veterinarians, scientists, and behaviorists,

as well as Olympic and 5* event riders.

HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF FLOW

Charlie Unwin, equestrian psychologist and performance coach on how to achieve the elusive "flow state."

HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF TRUST

Trust. It might be the single most important component in horse training. Featuring Olympians Lucinda Green and Mary King, international event rider and British eventing master coach Nick Gauntlett, international judges Sue Baxter and Christian de Coulon, 5* event rider Bubby Upton, and equine orthopedic specialist Sue Dyson.

HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP

Sleep deprivation is common in horses.  Dr. Monica Aleman, Professor / Internal Medicine / Neurology at U.C. Davis and Dr. Gemma Pearson, Equine Veterinarian and Behaviorist at the University of Edinburgh provide cutting edge knowledge on equine sleep patterns, requirements and abnormalities.

HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF HEARING

Horses hear into the ultrasonic range (up to 33,000 HZ whereas humans only hear up to 20,000 HZ). Wildlife biologist Julia Ersan went to a Northern California barn

with an ultrasonic microphone to record high frequency sounds that horses are often exposed to. Turns out there

is a plethora of environmental noise happening that

may cause your horse to look or spook at what humans often describe as "nothing."

HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF CONTENTMENT

Veterinarian and behaviorist Gemma Pearson and equine orthopaedic specialist Sue Dyson describe what to look for to see if your horse is content in its living spaces.

HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF VISUALIZATION

Can you improve your riding just by thinking about it?

Yes, you can.  For the brain, thinking is the same as doing. Visualization uses the same neural pathways as

doing the physical action.  Equestrian psychologist and performance coach Charlie Unwin tells you

how to train your brain.

HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF TRAINING ON VARIED FOOTING

Learn the physiological and psychological benefits of training your horse on varied surfaces, terrain and angles. Great advice from equine orthopedic specialist Sue Dyson, 6 X Olympian and legendary 5* event rider, Mary King, equine veterinarian/research scientist and grand prix dressage rider/trainer Rachel Murray

and the unstoppable competitor Bubby Upton.

HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF GRAZING

Acclaimed equine veterinarian and behaviorist Gemma Pearson describes the pattern of how horses graze and why it's so important for a horse to have the space to move.

HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF

HOW CHAMPIONS CONQUER NERVES

Olympic riders teach the rest of us their techniques for managing competition nerves. 5* event riders Lucinda Green, Mary King, Gemma Stevens and Bubby Upton are masters at getting into a flow state before the super-charged high stress events

 like Badminton and the Olympics.

HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY

Controlling your thoughts = controlling your physiology. Equestrian psychologist and performance coach Charlie Unwin provides invaluable advice - not just for riding, but also for LIFE.

 HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF

ACOUSTIC EAR COVERS

What are the effects of acoustic ear covers on performance horses? Equine Veterinarian/researcher Dr. Rachel Murray and Physiologist/research scientist Dr. David Marlin played various sounds to horses with and without ear covers. Do ear covers work to block sounds? The results say... it depends.

HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF RIDING A SPOOKY HORSE

56 Million years of evolution tells your horse to RUN when something scares it. Neuroscientist, horse trainer and author of "Horse Brain, Human Brain" Janet L. Jones PhD, gives brain-based pointers on calming your horse when it's brain is in flight mode.

HORSES & THE SCIENCE OF BONDING

What part of your horse's body can you scratch to lower it's heart rate?  Equine veterinarian and behaviorist Gemma Pearson talks about bonding with your horse through touch.
